The entire family is severely affected by addiction,
harmful dependencies and related mental health
disorders. Beyond the obvious physical and financial
harm, individuals and their families suffer from
emotional and mental distress. More often
than not, families do not know how to deal with the disease
and unwittingly contribute to progressive dysfunction.
Recovery and healing are most effective when all members
of the family are involved in the recovery process. Through
their involvement, family members begin
to understand the dynamics of the disease and its treatment.
Patient behaviors change after treatment and this new
behavior affects their families. When families learn how
to be properly supportive of recovering individuals, they
can ease their own suffering and promote total family
healing.
The Purpose of the Family Program:
- To educate families about addiction and how
it affects relationships
- To empower family members to take care of themselves,
and initiate their own recovery process.
- To teach family members how to support their
loved ones in truly helpful ways as they continue
in recovery
Family Program Begins By:
- Providing a much broader understanding of this “disease” and
its impact.
- Understanding our approach to treatment
as a road to recovery
- Looking at family roles that enable dysfunction
and other self-defeating patterns of behavior.
- Rebuilding relationships and developing new
attitudes and directions
The four day Family Program includes lectures, films,
multi-family sessions and equine-assisted therapy. Daily
sessions start at 8:30 AM and end at the close of the
day.
